How common is vulval lump in Bartholin cyst?

A Bartholin gland helps produce moisture near the vaginal opening. If its duct becomes blocked, fluid can collect and form a cyst. An abscess is a more painful, infected collection and may cause warmth, redness, pus, or fever. Other vulval lumps have different causes, so a clinician may examine the area before recommending observation or treatment.

Arrange an appointment for a new or recurring lump, especially if you are unsure what it is. A warm sitz bath may ease discomfort, but do not squeeze, pierce, or drain the swelling yourself. Wear loose clothing and keep the area clean and dry. A clinician may discuss drainage or another procedure if the cyst is painful, infected, or keeps returning.

Seek prompt care if the lump grows quickly, becomes intensely painful, turns red or hot, drains pus, or makes walking or sitting difficult. Fever, chills, or feeling unwell can suggest an abscess.
