How common is vertigo in middle ear infection?

The sensation may feel like spinning, tilting, or the room moving when your head changes position. Ear pain, a blocked feeling, reduced hearing, fever, or fluid from the ear may occur alongside the infection. Vertigo can make walking and turning unsafe, so move slowly and sit down when an episode starts. Vertigo with an ear infection does not identify the cause by itself; inner-ear problems, medicines, migraine, and other conditions can also affect balance.

Rest in a quiet place, keep your head movements gentle, and drink fluids if nausea is present. Avoid driving, climbing, or operating machinery while balance is affected. Arrange a clinical assessment so the ear can be examined and hearing and balance symptoms can be reviewed. Use prescribed treatment exactly as directed, and do not put drops or objects into the ear unless a clinician has advised it.

Seek urgent medical help for sudden weakness, facial drooping, trouble speaking, fainting, a severe new headache, chest pain, or difficulty walking that does not settle. Prompt assessment is also needed for severe ear pain, swelling behind the ear, a very high fever, repeated vomiting, or new hearing loss. Contact a clinician if vertigo persists, returns repeatedly, or prevents normal activities.
