How common is vaginal discharge in trichomoniasis?

Discharge cannot identify trichomoniasis on its own. Burning, itching, soreness, discomfort during sex, or irritation when passing urine may occur, while some people notice no symptoms. Other infections and changes in the vaginal environment can produce similar discharge, so a test is needed for a clear answer.

Arrange testing through a sexual-health service or clinician if discharge is new or follows a possible exposure. Avoid sex until you have received advice and any recommended treatment. Current and recent partners may need assessment and treatment, even if they feel well, to reduce the chance of passing the infection between partners.

Seek prompt care for discharge with pelvic pain, fever, bleeding after sex, or pain during sex. Get urgent help for severe pain, fainting, heavy bleeding, or vomiting. Mention pregnancy or possible pregnancy when arranging care so assessment and treatment can be planned safely.

Ask how trichomoniasis is tested, whether other infection tests are appropriate, how partners should be contacted, and when sex can resume. Ask what to do if symptoms continue after treatment or return later.
