How common is vaginal bulge in uterine prolapse?

Short answer
Vaginal Bulge is a very common presentation of Uterine Prolapse. Uterine prolapse occurs when the uterus moves downward because the pelvic support tissues are no longer holding it in its usual position.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Common pattern
- Symptoms may increase with standing or straining
- Possible overlap
- Other pelvic support changes may occur together
How it may feel
You may notice pelvic heaviness, pressure, or a feeling that something is coming down. A bulge can be more apparent after standing, lifting, coughing, or straining and less noticeable after resting. Some people also have lower back discomfort, urinary leakage, difficulty emptying the bladder, or discomfort during sex. The degree of symptoms does not always match how visible the bulge is. Uterine prolapse can occur with other support changes, so a clinician may assess the bladder and bowel areas as well.
What you can do
Arrange a pelvic examination when the bulge is new, persistent, or affecting comfort, activity, sex, or urination. Note whether it appears only after exertion or remains present at rest. Depending on your symptoms, options may include pelvic floor physiotherapy, a pessary, treating constipation, and reducing repeated heavy straining. Surgery is one possible option when prolapse remains significantly troublesome, but it is not the only approach.
When to seek care promptly
Seek prompt medical attention for inability to pass urine, severe or sudden pain, heavy bleeding, fever, foul-smelling discharge, or tissue that becomes very sore, dry, injured, or changes colour. Rapid worsening should also be assessed, particularly if the bulge remains out despite resting.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether the uterus is the main source of the bulge, whether the vaginal walls are also affected, and how the examination relates to your bladder symptoms. Discuss pessary care, pelvic floor therapy, lifting guidance, and the findings that would change your treatment plan.
