How common is unexplained fever in lymphoma?

Lymphoma involves cells of the lymphatic and immune system. Fever can be part of the body's inflammatory response, but it may also be caused by an ordinary viral or bacterial infection, a medicine, or another illness. Some people also notice drenching night sweats, ongoing tiredness, itching, swollen lymph nodes, or unintentional weight change. None of these symptoms alone can confirm lymphoma.

If a fever is unexplained or keeps recurring, arrange a clinician review. Bring a record of temperature readings, the time of day they occur, recent travel or sick contacts, medicines, and any other changes in your health. The clinician can look for infection and assess whether blood tests, imaging, or referral are needed. Rest, fluids, and fever medicine may ease discomfort, but they should not replace assessment when symptoms persist.

Urgent care is appropriate if fever occurs with difficulty breathing, severe headache with a stiff neck, confusion, collapse, severe dehydration, or rapidly worsening weakness. Contact your cancer team promptly if you are having cancer treatment or have reduced immunity, because infection may need swift treatment. Seek medical advice sooner when a fever is paired with a new lump, persistent night sweats, or marked deterioration.
