How common are swollen lymph nodes in follicular lymphoma?

Follicular lymphoma develops from immune cells and often involves lymph-node tissue. The swelling is commonly painless and may remain for some time, while other symptoms can be subtle. A person may notice tiredness, fever, night sweats or weight loss, but these are not present in everyone. Several non-cancerous conditions, especially infections, can also cause swollen nodes. Doctors consider the location, texture and changes over time and may use blood tests, imaging and tissue sampling to clarify the diagnosis.

Make an appointment for a lump that does not settle, becomes larger or is joined by swelling elsewhere. Record its location and any changes, along with fever, night sweating or fatigue. Avoid squeezing it. If follicular lymphoma is known, tell the oncology team about new swelling, discomfort or a change in symptoms; they can decide whether examination or updated testing is needed. Keep scheduled appointments even when the swelling is not painful.

Get urgent help for breathing difficulty, swallowing problems, sudden severe swelling, fainting or confusion. Seek prompt clinical advice if a node continues to enlarge or if persistent fever, drenching night sweats or significant unexplained weight loss develops. These signs can have causes other than lymphoma, but they should be assessed without delay.
