Short answer

Snoring is a common presentation of Allergic Rhinitis when nasal swelling makes nighttime breathing harder.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why allergic rhinitis can cause snoring

Allergic rhinitis inflames the lining of the nose. Swelling and mucus can narrow the nasal passages, encouraging mouth breathing during sleep. Air moving through the mouth and throat can vibrate nearby tissues and produce snoring. Nasal itching, sneezing, a blocked or runny nose, and itchy watery eyes may occur as well.

Snoring can have several causes, including sleeping position, nasal structure, alcohol, or a sleep-related breathing disorder. Its presence does not identify allergic rhinitis on its own. Notice whether it follows seasonal or indoor triggers and whether nasal symptoms improve when the allergy is controlled.

Improving nighttime comfort

Reduce known allergens in the bedroom, keep the room ventilated, and try sleeping on your side if that is comfortable. Saline nasal spray may ease dryness and mucus. A clinician or pharmacist can explain whether an antihistamine or nasal corticosteroid is suitable; use nasal medicines as directed and do not share them.

Avoid smoking and be cautious with alcohol near bedtime, since both can worsen noisy breathing for some people. Keep a short record of nasal symptoms, sleep quality, and when snoring occurs to discuss at an appointment.

When to seek medical care

Seek an assessment if snoring is loud or frequent, affects sleep, or comes with morning headaches or daytime sleepiness. Prompt medical advice is needed for witnessed pauses in breathing, gasping, choking during sleep, or difficult breathing while awake. These signs can point to a sleep-related breathing problem that needs evaluation.

Questions for your doctor

Could nasal allergy be contributing to my snoring? Which treatment could reduce nighttime blockage? Do my sleep symptoms suggest that I need assessment for another breathing problem?
