How common is persistent pelvic pain in womb cancer?

Ongoing pelvic discomfort can be felt as a dull ache, heaviness, pressure or cramping below the belly button. With womb cancer, it may be noticed with abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge, but symptoms differ between people. A pain pattern cannot establish the cause by itself. Fibroids, endometriosis, urinary problems, bowel conditions and pelvic infection can also produce similar discomfort.

Book an appointment when pelvic pain persists, returns repeatedly, or becomes more disruptive. Bring a symptom note that includes timing, severity, bleeding or discharge, and changes in eating, urination or bowel movements. Your clinician can consider your medical history, perform an appropriate examination, and discuss whether imaging, blood tests or specialist assessment would be useful.

Urgent assessment is needed for intense new pelvic pain, very heavy bleeding, dizziness or fainting, fever, vomiting, or pain in pregnancy. Seek prompt advice if persistent pelvic pain occurs with bleeding after menopause or with unusual vaginal discharge. Urgency comes from the symptom pattern and its severity, not from assuming a particular diagnosis.

Consider asking what else could be causing the pain, whether a pelvic examination is needed, and how any vaginal bleeding changes the assessment. Ask which symptoms should lead you to contact the clinic sooner.
