How common is persistent headache in meningioma?

Meningiomas arise from tissues surrounding the brain and spinal cord. When one affects nearby brain tissue or pressure inside the skull, headache may be part of the presentation. The feeling is not identical for everyone; it can be dull, progressive or different from a familiar migraine or tension headache.

A headache does not reveal its own cause. The location of the meningioma, its effects on nearby structures and a person’s other symptoms all matter when a clinician decides what investigation is needed.

Book a routine medical appointment for a new daily headache, a headache that continues despite usual measures, or a clear change in a long-standing pattern. Note when it occurs, whether it is worse after lying down, and whether it comes with nausea, reduced vision, hearing changes, clumsiness or altered concentration.

For someone being monitored after a meningioma diagnosis, share any new or worsening symptoms with the specialist team so they can decide whether the follow-up plan needs adjustment.

Get urgent help for a sudden severe headache, a first seizure, new weakness, facial drooping, difficulty speaking, loss of consciousness, severe confusion or a sudden major visual change. These warning signs warrant prompt evaluation whatever the underlying diagnosis.
