How common is nausea in gastritis?

Gastritis is irritation or inflammation of the stomach lining. It can disturb normal stomach movement and make the stomach more sensitive, producing nausea, queasiness, burning discomfort, or early fullness. Vomiting may occur, but not everyone with gastritis vomits. Medicines, alcohol, infection, and other stomach irritants can contribute, so symptoms need to be considered alongside your history.

Nausea by itself does not establish gastritis. A clinician may ask about pain, indigestion, medicines, alcohol, stool changes, and whether symptoms follow meals. Further assessment can help separate stomach irritation from reflux, an ulcer, infection, or another cause.

Try small, bland meals and regular sips of water if eating feels difficult. Avoid alcohol and foods or medicines that you know worsen the discomfort. Do not take anti-inflammatory painkillers repeatedly without medical advice, because they can irritate the stomach lining. Record when nausea starts, what you have eaten, and any vomiting or burning pain.

Get urgent help for vomiting blood, black or tar-like stools, severe abdominal pain, fainting, confusion, or inability to keep fluids down. Contact a clinician promptly if nausea persists, repeatedly returns, causes weight loss, or comes with difficulty swallowing. These features need assessment rather than self-treatment alone.
