How common are muscle aches in dengue fever?

Dengue-related aches can feel deep, widespread, and draining rather than like soreness after a particular activity. They can occur with headache, pain behind the eyes, nausea, rash, or joint discomfort. Not everyone has the same combination of symptoms.

Aching muscles do not by themselves show that dengue is present. Other infections, heat exposure, exertion, and medication effects can cause similar discomfort. A clinician considers your symptoms, examination, travel or mosquito exposure, and testing when deciding what is causing an acute fever.

Rest in a cool place and sip fluids often, particularly if fever or nausea is making you lose fluid. Arrange a medical assessment if dengue is possible, so you can receive advice tailored to your symptoms. Before taking pain medicines, ask a clinician or pharmacist which option is appropriate; some medicines may be unsuitable when dengue is being considered. Record fever, vomiting, bleeding, abdominal pain, and how much you are drinking.

Seek urgent medical help for severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding from the nose or gums, blood in vomit or stool, unusual drowsiness or restlessness, fainting, cold clammy skin, or breathing difficulty. Prompt review is also sensible if fever and aches are worsening, you cannot drink enough, or you are pregnant, very young, older, or living with a significant health condition.

Ask whether your symptoms could need dengue testing, what fluids and pain relief are suitable, and which warning signs apply to you. Tell the clinician about travel, mosquito bites, the day symptoms began, medicines you have taken, and any previous bleeding or stomach problems.
