How common is jaundice in gallbladder cancer?

The gallbladder sits close to the liver and the ducts that transport bile to the intestine. Gallbladder cancer can press on or grow into nearby structures, narrowing the route for bile. Bilirubin may then collect in the blood, causing yellowing of the eyes or skin. Dark urine, pale stools, itching, nausea, reduced appetite, or upper-abdominal discomfort may also appear. Gallstones, hepatitis, infections, and other conditions can produce jaundice too.

Report new jaundice to a clinician promptly, even if there is little pain. The assessment may include liver blood tests, an abdominal examination, and imaging such as ultrasound or other scans chosen for your situation. Bring a list of medicines and supplements, and mention fever, weight change, appetite loss, itching, or changes in urine and stool colour. Avoid starting a detox product or stopping treatment without advice.

Get urgent medical help if jaundice occurs with fever, chills, severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, confusion, faintness, or rapidly worsening illness. Infection behind a blocked bile duct can become serious. Inability to drink, marked drowsiness, or new bleeding also requires immediate assessment.
