How common is itchy groin in erythrasma?

Erythrasma is a bacterial skin infection that often affects warm, moist folds such as the groin. Sweat and friction can keep the area irritated. Some people have more colour change than itch, while others notice discomfort during movement or after sweating.

Because several fold rashes can look alike, groin itching does not identify Erythrasma on its own. A clinician may inspect the colour, scale, edges, and distribution and use an examination method to clarify the diagnosis.

Wash gently, dry the fold carefully, and change damp underwear or exercise clothing promptly. Choose loose breathable fabrics and avoid fragranced sprays, harsh scrubbing, and rubbing the patch. Keep personal towels separate until the cause is clear.

Do not assume an antifungal product will treat every fold rash. Ask a pharmacist or clinician to select treatment based on the likely cause, especially if the area is cracked or inflamed.

Arrange medical review if the patch persists, spreads, returns, becomes painful, or fails to improve with advised care.
