How common is itchy feet in contact dermatitis?

Contact Dermatitis develops when skin reacts after exposure to something that irritates it or triggers an allergy. Footwear materials, adhesives, dyes, detergents, topical products, and sweat can all be relevant clues. The rash may follow the shape of a sandal strap, insole, sock, or product rather than covering the whole foot.

Itchy feet do not identify the cause by themselves. A clinician may ask when the rash began, what touched the skin, and whether it improves away from a particular shoe or product.

Pause newly introduced foot creams, sprays, insoles, socks, or footwear until the cause is clearer. Wash gently with lukewarm water, pat dry, and use a plain fragrance-free moisturiser if it does not sting. Choose breathable footwear and avoid rubbing the irritated area.

Keep a short record of products and exposures, including when symptoms appear. Do not restart a suspected trigger simply to test it if the reaction was intense.

Seek assessment if the rash is persistent, spreading, painful, blistered, weeping, or interfering with sleep. Get prompt help for facial swelling, breathing difficulty, widespread hives, fever, pus, or rapidly worsening redness. A clinician can consider infection or allergy and select treatment safely.
