How common is fatigue in COVID-19?

Short answer
Fatigue is a very common presentation of COVID-19 and may occur during the illness or linger while recovery progresses.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Pattern

- Self-care
- Rest, regular fluids, nourishment, and gradual activity
- Urgency
- Breathing difficulty, confusion, or inability to stay awake needs urgent help
What fatigue can mean
Viral illness can affect sleep, appetite, concentration, muscles, and the body’s energy demands. Fatigue may feel like heavy limbs, reduced stamina, or difficulty concentrating, even after fever or other symptoms settle. Its intensity and duration vary. Fatigue alone does not establish COVID-19, because infections, stress, medication effects, and other health problems can feel similar.
What to do
Rest when needed, drink regularly, eat simple nourishing meals, and return to activity in small steps as your energy allows. Avoid pushing through a marked crash. Follow current local advice about testing, staying home, and reducing contact when you are unwell. Record symptoms and medicines, particularly if fatigue continues after the acute illness, so a clinician can review recovery and other possible causes.
When to seek care
Contact a clinician if fatigue is worsening, lasts beyond expected recovery, or prevents basic activities. Get urgent help for difficulty breathing, chest pressure, new confusion, inability to stay awake, fainting, or blue or grey lips or skin.
Questions for your doctor
Could another illness or medicine be adding to my fatigue? How should I pace activity? What symptoms would mean I need assessment for a complication or prolonged recovery?

Questions people ask
Does fatigue prove that I have COVID-19?
No. Fatigue is non-specific; diagnosis depends on the clinical situation and any recommended testing.
Can fatigue continue after COVID-19?
Yes. Some people remain tired during recovery, and persistent or limiting symptoms should be discussed with a clinician.
