Cervical ectropion happens when softer glandular cells are visible on the outer surface of the cervix. These cells contain small blood vessels and may be more sensitive than the surrounding tissue. Cervical ectropion is not the same as cervical cancer, but similar bleeding can have several possible causes, so the pattern should be assessed rather than assumed.
