How common is abdominal pain in gastritis?

Gastritis means inflammation of the stomach lining. It may cause a burning, gnawing, or tender sensation in the upper abdomen, sometimes with nausea, bloating, belching, or feeling full soon after eating. Symptoms may be related to irritation from medicines, alcohol, infection, or other factors. Similar symptoms can occur with acid reflux, ulcers, gallbladder conditions, and other problems, so the cause needs individual assessment.

Make a note of triggers such as meals, alcohol, and pain-relieving medicines, as well as any change in appetite, vomiting, or stool colour. Do not stop prescribed treatment without advice, but tell a clinician about medicines you use, including anti-inflammatory pain medicines. These symptoms are not explained safely by assuming gastritis and should be checked.
