CLL can behave differently from one person to another. If treatment is needed, the team weighs its expected benefit against side effects, drug interactions and the person’s priorities. Age alone does not determine the plan.

Bring a complete medicine and supplement list to appointments, including medicines bought without a prescription. Keep scheduled blood tests and report infections, new bruising, night sweats, worsening tiredness, swollen glands or unplanned weight change.

Ask for a written plan covering vaccines, infection prevention, dental care, activity and help at home. Discuss independence and treatment preferences early so the team can match care with what matters to you.

Contact the clinical team promptly for fever or chills, a new infection, unusual bleeding, rapidly worsening weakness or breathlessness. Seek emergency help for severe breathing difficulty, confusion, fainting, heavy bleeding or sudden collapse. CLL and its treatments can affect blood cells, so these symptoms need timely assessment.

Ask whether observation is appropriate, what changes would lead to treatment and how your other conditions or medicines affect options. Ask how tests will monitor blood counts, infection risk and organ function, and who to call about symptoms between visits.
