What should you know about hormones and cellulite?

How the structures involved in Cellulite differ from normal

Short answer

Hormones may influence cellulite by affecting fat distribution, connective tissue structure and fluid balance, but cellulite is not a sign of poor health.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Dimpling from fat and fibrous bands

It is not a measure of health

Why the texture changes

Cellulite forms when fat pushes against fibrous bands beneath the skin, creating dimpling or an orange-peel texture. Hormonal shifts may alter where fat is stored, how connective tissue behaves and how much fluid the tissues retain. It can appear in people of different body sizes and may become more noticeable with age, skin laxity or changes in muscle and fat. Its visibility does not reliably measure fitness or body weight.

Options to consider

Regular movement and strength training can support muscle tone and general health, although they may not remove dimpling. Stable skincare and avoiding unverified hormone products are sensible. If appearance remains bothersome, a qualified clinician can explain options such as Radiofrequency Skin Tightening, RF Microneedling, Carboxytherapy or Subcision. Each works differently, has limitations and may require more than one appointment; suitability depends on skin, dimpling pattern and medical history.

When to seek care

Cellulite itself is usually a cosmetic concern. Arrange medical review if a new area is painful, hot, red, rapidly swollen, firm or clearly different from the surrounding skin. One-sided swelling, sudden limb enlargement or shortness of breath needs prompt medical attention because those features are not typical of ordinary cellulite. Discuss marked body changes with a clinician if they coincide with a new medicine or endocrine symptoms.

Questions for your doctor

Ask whether the texture is cellulite or another condition, what improvement is realistic for your pattern, how many visits may be needed, and what side effects or aftercare apply to each procedure. Tell them about pregnancy, medicines, bleeding problems and prior treatments.
