What should you know about homeopathic remedy for ringworm?

Ringworm is a fungal skin infection, despite its name; it is not caused by a worm. Delaying an effective antifungal can allow the patch to enlarge or spread to another person.

Homeopathic drops, pellets or creams may be marketed for skin complaints, but a product that does not act against the fungus should not be relied on to clear an infection. Avoid applying an unlabelled mixture to broken skin, and tell your clinician about any product you have used.

Arrange a pharmacy or medical assessment if the diagnosis is not clear. Keep the area clean and dry, wash hands after touching it, avoid sharing towels or clothing, and wash these items regularly. Do not scratch or cover the patch with a steroid cream unless a clinician specifically advises it, because steroids can change the appearance and allow fungus to spread. Seek medical advice when the rash is spreading, involves the scalp, beard area or nails, or has not improved with a correctly used antifungal. Prompt assessment is also sensible if there is marked pain, pus, warmth, rapidly increasing redness, fever, or involvement around the eyes.

Children, people with diabetes, and people with a weakened immune system may need tailored treatment. Get urgent help for facial swelling, breathing difficulty or a severe reaction after using any product.
