What a rash can mean
A rash is a visible change in the skin, such as redness, bumps, scaling, dryness, or blisters. Causes include irritation, allergy, heat, infection, insect exposure, and inflammatory conditions. A rash may be a presentation of Contact Dermatitis, Atopic Dermatitis, Heat Rash, Psoriasis, Ringworm, Scabies, or a Drug Rash, but its appearance alone cannot identify the cause.
Gentle care at home
Rinse with lukewarm water and use a mild, fragrance-free cleanser. Pat dry rather than rubbing, then apply a plain moisturiser. A cool, damp cloth can calm itch or heat; keep it on briefly and repeat as needed. Wear loose, breathable clothing and keep fingernails short. Stop new cosmetics, detergents, plants, or other products that may have touched the area, and avoid scratching, scrubbing, essential oils, bleach, toothpaste, and unprescribed steroid or antibiotic creams. Do not put a suspected fungal rash under an airtight covering.
When to seek care
Seek urgent help for trouble breathing, swelling of the lips or face, faintness, widespread blistering, skin peeling, severe pain, or a rash involving the eyes or mouth. Arrange prompt medical assessment for fever, pus, rapidly spreading redness, a painful warm area, or a rash after starting a medicine. If the rash persists, repeatedly returns, spreads, or disrupts sleep, a clinician can examine it and choose targeted treatment.
Questions for your doctor
Could this be Contact Dermatitis, Ringworm, Scabies, or another condition? Which products should I stop, and what treatment is appropriate for this body area? What changes should prompt urgent review?

Questions people ask
Can I use a home remedy for every rash?
No. Home care may calm mild irritation, but infection, medication reactions, and inflammatory rashes need different treatment.
When should a rash be checked?
Get prompt help for breathing symptoms, facial swelling, blistering, skin peeling, fever, rapid spread, or severe pain.
