Home remedies for a nickel allergy rash

Nickel allergy is a contact reaction. Redness, itching, small blisters, dryness, or cracking may appear where jewellery, a watch, a belt buckle, clothing fasteners, tools, or another object touches the skin. The rash can continue after removal because inflammation takes time to settle. A spreading rash may also have another cause, especially when there is no clear contact pattern.

Remove the suspected item and wash the skin with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser. Pat dry, apply a bland moisturiser, and use a cool damp cloth briefly for itch. Avoid scratching, alcohol, perfume, lemon juice, and homemade pastes. Keep nails short and cover the area loosely if rubbing is unavoidable. A clinician may recommend topical corticosteroids for a short course and can discuss patch testing to identify the trigger.

Arrange care if the rash is severe, recurrent, spreading beyond the contact area, or not improving after the suspected item is removed. Seek urgent help for facial swelling, trouble breathing, extensive blistering, fever, increasing warmth, pus, or rapidly worsening pain. Scratching can break the skin and allow infection, so oozing or crusting deserves an examination.
