Short answer

Home exercises may support strength and comfort, but home remedies cannot reliably straighten established knock knees.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Understanding knock knees

Knock knees, also called genu valgum, describe leg alignment in which the knees come closer together while the ankles remain farther apart. Alignment can change during growth, so age, symmetry, pain, walking pattern, and progression all matter.

A home remedy cannot reshape a growing bone or correct a fixed alignment. Some people have no symptoms; others develop tired legs, discomfort, uneven movement, or difficulty with activities. A clinical examination helps decide whether observation is enough.

Supportive steps at home

Choose comfortable, well-fitting footwear and keep activity varied rather than repeating movements that trigger pain. Gentle strengthening of the hips, thighs, and trunk may improve control during walking and stairs, but exercises should be demonstrated or adapted by a professional when a child has pain or an unusual gait.

Do not use forceful stretching, homemade braces, or restrictive taping to push the knees into position. Track changes with occasional observations of walking, pain, and activity tolerance rather than comparing photographs day by day. Paediatric Physiotherapy can provide age-appropriate movement guidance.

When assessment is needed

Arrange an assessment if the alignment is strongly unequal, worsening, painful, associated with limping, or interfering with play, sport, or daily tasks. Seek prompt care after an injury that causes marked pain or inability to bear weight. In selected cases where growth is complete and alignment causes significant problems, an orthopaedic specialist may discuss Osteotomy; this is not a home treatment.

Questions for your doctor

Is this alignment appropriate for the person’s age? Is one side different? Which exercises are safe? Do we need monitoring, imaging, or a referral to Paediatric Physiotherapy?

Questions people ask

Do exercises cure knock knees?

Exercises can improve strength and movement control, but they do not reliably change established bone alignment.

Are braces useful at home?

Braces should not be bought or fitted without professional advice because the cause and growth stage determine whether they are appropriate.
