Home remedies for genital warts

Genital warts are growths associated with human papillomavirus and may appear on the penis, vulva, around the anus, or nearby skin. Some lesions resemble other causes of vulval skin changes, so a clinician may need to examine them before treatment. Do not apply vinegar, essential oils, bleach, toothpaste, or pharmacy wart liquids to genital skin; these can cause burns, swelling, open sores, or delayed diagnosis. Avoid cutting, scraping, or tying off a lesion.

Keep the area gently clean and dry, wear loose breathable underwear, and avoid shaving or picking over bumps. Depending on the examination, options can include Imiquimod Treatment, Cryotherapy (Lesion Removal), or Electrosurgery. HPV Vaccination may help prevent infections from vaccine-covered types but does not remove existing warts.

Seek prompt medical assessment for bleeding, marked pain, pus, rapidly changing lesions, fever, difficulty passing urine, or a sore that does not heal. Arrange evaluation sooner if you are pregnant, immunocompromised, or unsure whether the growth is a wart. A clinician can check for other infections and choose treatment that fits the location and your health.
