Home Remedies for Genital Itching

Genital itching can result from irritation, moisture, an allergic reaction, or a skin condition. Contact Dermatitis may follow soaps, wipes, pads, lubricants, or laundry products. Atopic Dermatitis, Psoriasis, Lichen Planus, Asteatotic Eczema, and Hives can affect sensitive skin. A Skin Yeast Infection or Scabies may need specific treatment, so itching alone does not identify the cause.

Rinse gently with lukewarm water and pat dry; avoid douching, scrubbing, deodorising sprays, and fragranced washes. Wear loose, breathable underwear and change out of sweaty clothing. A cool cloth over the outer skin may reduce the urge to scratch. Avoid applying steroid, antifungal, anaesthetic, or herbal products internally or without guidance, because the wrong product can mask symptoms or worsen irritation. Pause any newly introduced product until the skin settles.

Arrange prompt medical review for sores, blisters, ulcers, bleeding, marked swelling, pain, unusual discharge, fever, painful urination, or symptoms after sexual exposure. Seek urgent care for rapidly worsening swelling, severe pain, fever with a spreading rash, or trouble passing urine. A clinician can examine the affected skin and decide whether testing is needed.
