Hirsutism before puberty: what to know

Fine body hair is different from thick, pigmented hair in an androgen-sensitive pattern. Before puberty, a clinician considers the child’s age, growth pattern, family traits, skin findings and whether other pubertal changes are present. The hair itself does not establish a diagnosis.
