An otoscope helps a clinician inspect the ear canal and eardrum. An ophthalmoscope provides a close view of structures inside the eye, including the pupil area and visible tissues at the back of the eye. The set may also support examination of the nose, throat or skin when the clinician needs a bright, directed view. It is an assessment aid, not a diagnosis by itself; findings are interpreted alongside symptoms, medical history and other examination results.

You may be asked about pain, discharge, hearing or vision changes, headaches, dizziness, fever and any recent injury. During the examination, sit still and follow instructions about where to look. The ear examination can feel unusual, especially if the canal is tender, but tell the clinician if pressure or discomfort is significant.
