Heat rash symptoms and treatment

Short answer
Heat rash causes small itchy or prickly bumps when trapped sweat irritates the skin, and cooling the skin usually helps it settle.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What heat rash means
Heat rash, also called prickly heat or miliaria, develops when sweat cannot reach the skin surface easily. You may notice tiny red bumps, clear fluid-filled spots, stinging, or itch in areas covered by clothing or skin folds. The neck, chest, back, waist, groin, and places where skin rubs together are common locations. Skin redness or a bumpy rash can have other causes, so appearance alone cannot confirm the diagnosis.
What you can do
Move to a cooler environment, take a lukewarm shower, and pat the skin dry rather than rubbing it. Wear loose, breathable clothing and pause activities that cause heavy sweating until the area calms. Avoid thick oily products, tight bandages, and scratching, which can trap heat or damage the surface. A light, fragrance-free moisturiser may support the skin barrier; see Emollient Therapy for general guidance. A clinician may consider a short course of Topical Corticosteroids when inflammation is troublesome.
When to seek care
Arrange a medical review if the rash spreads, becomes painful, develops pus or crusting, or does not improve after cooling and gentle care. Seek prompt help for fever, marked swelling, severe tenderness, blistering, or feeling unwell. A clinician can distinguish heat rash from infection, eczema, contact irritation, or another cause of skin bumps.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether the pattern fits heat rash, which products are suitable for the affected body area, and how long to use any prescribed anti-inflammatory cream. Mention recent heat exposure, new clothing or skincare products, itching, pain, drainage, and whether the rash returns after sweating.

Questions people ask
Is heat rash contagious?
No. Heat rash results from sweat and irritation within the skin, not from an infection that spreads between people.
Should I scratch heat rash?
Try not to scratch. Scratching can break the skin and make irritation or infection more likely.
