Heat rash due to sun exposure: what to know

Hot weather, sweating, tight clothing and humid conditions can block or irritate sweat ducts. Small itchy or prickly bumps may appear on the neck, chest, back, folds or other covered areas. Move into shade or an air-conditioned space, rinse with cool water, pat the skin dry and wear loose, breathable clothing. Avoid heavy oils, fragranced products and vigorous rubbing while the skin is irritated. A light, bland moisturiser may support the skin barrier; a clinician can advise whether Emollient Therapy or a short course of Topical Corticosteroids fits your situation.

Arrange medical advice if the rash is spreading, markedly painful, warm, oozing or accompanied by fever, because infection or another sun-related rash may need assessment.
