How the structures involved in Heat Rash differ from normal

Short answer

Heat rash on the bottom of the feet is managed by cooling and drying the soles, reducing friction, and checking persistent changes for another cause.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why the soles may feel irritated

Sweat, heat and occlusive footwear can irritate the feet and block sweat ducts. Heat rash may cause prickling, itch, small bumps or tiny blisters, although the thick skin of the soles can make changes look less obvious. Peeling, scaling between the toes, a strong odour or a rash that persists despite cooling can point to a different condition, such as a fungal infection or contact irritation. Skin bumps and skin redness pages offer broader symptom context.

Sole-care measures

Remove warm shoes and damp socks when possible. Wash gently, dry carefully between the toes and choose breathable footwear with clean, moisture-wicking socks. Rotate shoes so they can dry fully, and avoid tight straps that rub the soles. A cool foot soak can soothe symptoms; dry the feet immediately afterwards. Avoid thick greasy layers between the toes. A fragrance-free emollient can help dry, cracked areas; see Emollient Therapy for more detail. Do not use steroid treatment on a scaly or uncertain rash unless a clinician has advised it.

When a foot check is needed

See a clinician if walking becomes painful, the rash is one-sided, blisters recur, or symptoms do not settle after keeping the feet cool and dry. Prompt care is appropriate for spreading redness, warmth, swelling, drainage, fever or a wound that does not heal. People with diabetes, reduced circulation or reduced sensation should seek advice early for new foot skin changes.

Questions to take along

Does this look like heat rash, fungal infection or contact dermatitis? Should I change my footwear or use an emollient? Is any treatment safe for the soles? Which changes mean I should seek urgent foot care?

Questions people ask

Can heat rash occur on the soles?

Heat and trapped sweat can irritate the feet, but persistent scaling or toe-web changes should be checked because other conditions can look similar.

What should I do about sweaty feet?

Change damp socks, dry carefully after washing, and use footwear that allows airflow and does not rub.
