What should you know about groin pain when sitting cross legged on floor?

Short answer
Groin pain when sitting cross-legged can reflect limited hip mobility or irritation of muscles and joint tissues, especially when the position is held or forced.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What this position does
Cross-legged sitting asks the hips to bend, move outward, and rotate. If one hip is stiff or the surrounding muscles are tense, the inner groin may feel stretched, compressed, or pinched. Hip impingement can make flexion and rotation uncomfortable; a hip labral tear may be associated with clicking or catching; and hip osteoarthritis can cause stiffness and reduced range. The position itself does not identify which structure is responsible.
Make sitting more comfortable
Do not push the knees toward the floor or stay in a painful position. Sit on a firm cushion, support the knees, change position regularly, or use a chair while symptoms are active. Gentle hip movement within a comfortable range is preferable to aggressive stretching. If the pain limits prayer, work, exercise, or floor activities, a physiotherapist can assess both hips and tailor mobility and strength work. Sports Physiotherapy can help when training is also affected.
When to seek care
Seek assessment if pain persists outside the cross-legged position, causes limping, wakes you, or comes with clicking, locking, or a sense of giving way. Get prompt care after injury if you cannot bear weight, or for sudden severe pain, numbness, fever, or a hot and swollen joint.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether hip range, muscle flexibility, or joint irritation is limiting the position; which sitting alternatives are suitable; and whether an exercise plan should focus on mobility, strength, or both. Mention which side hurts and how long you can sit comfortably.

Questions people ask
Should I keep sitting cross-legged to improve flexibility?
Do not practise through sharp or pinching pain; use supported, comfortable positions and seek guidance if symptoms continue.
Is cross-legged pain always arthritis?
No. Muscle tension, limited mobility, hip impingement, and other hip problems can produce similar discomfort.
