What should you know about glue for plaster of paris?

A plaster of Paris cast is shaped to support and protect an injured area while it dries and hardens. Its fit, padding, edges, and condition all affect comfort and protection. Glue can make a cracked or softened area appear repaired without restoring the cast's support. It may also seep through openings, stick to padding, or make later removal more difficult.

Cast materials are selected and applied for a particular injury or correction. Fracture casting and clubfoot casting involve clinical checks of alignment, circulation, skin, and movement; a home repair cannot replace those checks.

Keep the cast dry, avoid cutting or reshaping it, and contact the treating team if it cracks, becomes loose, soft, wet, tight, or develops a sharp edge. Protect the cast during bathing according to the instructions you were given. Do not insert objects inside it to scratch, and do not add padding or adhesive without advice.

If a small edge is rubbing, cover it only in the way your care team recommended and arrange a review. A clinician can decide whether the cast needs reinforcement, replacement, or removal and can check the skin underneath.

Get prompt medical advice for worsening pain, increasing pressure, numbness, tingling, cold or discoloured fingers or toes, new swelling beyond the cast, wet plaster that remains soft, bad odour, drainage, or fever. Seek urgent help if the limb becomes difficult to move or circulation changes suddenly.
