Gallstones symptoms in females

Gallstone pain often sits under the right ribs or in the upper middle abdomen and may spread toward the back or right shoulder. It can follow a meal and may last long enough to interrupt normal activity. Nausea and vomiting can accompany the pain. Some people have no symptoms at all, while others notice repeated attacks.

Women may also have symptoms from pregnancy, reflux, stomach conditions, or pelvic causes. The location and timing of pain matter, but symptoms alone cannot confirm gallstones.

Record when pain starts, what you ate, how long it lasts, and whether nausea, vomiting, fever, or stool and urine changes occur. Eat moderate portions and avoid foods that repeatedly provoke discomfort. Arrange a GP consultation for recurring symptoms or a new unexplained episode.

Seek urgent care if pain is severe or does not settle, or if it comes with fever, chills, yellow skin or eyes, repeated vomiting, collapse, or difficulty drinking. These signs can reflect gallbladder or bile-duct inflammation and should not be watched at home.

Ask whether an ultrasound and blood tests could clarify the cause, whether your symptoms fit biliary pain, and whether pregnancy or current medicines change the assessment. Bring your symptom and meal record.
