What should you know about FUT and FUE hair transplant?

Both methods use donor hair, usually from the back or sides of the scalp, and place selected grafts into areas affected by hair thinning. FUT, also called strip harvesting, leaves a linear wound that is closed with stitches. FUE uses a small punch to remove grafts one by one, so it leaves many tiny healing points instead of one incision.

The choice depends on donor density, the size and shape of the thinning area, hairstyle preferences, scalp characteristics, and the surgeon’s assessment. Hair loss from male pattern hair loss is one possible reason for treatment, but the cause should be assessed before surgery.

Ask for a diagnosis and a mapped treatment plan before choosing a method. Share medicines, smoking or vaping, bleeding problems, allergies, previous scalp procedures, and any active scalp inflammation. The clinic should explain how grafts will be selected, where the hairline will sit, and what scar care is needed.

After treatment, follow the washing, sleeping, exercise, sun-protection, and medicine instructions provided by the surgical team. Swelling, tightness, crusting, and temporary shedding can occur during healing. Newly transplanted hairs develop gradually, so early appearance does not show the final result.

Contact the clinic promptly for increasing pain, spreading redness, fever, pus, bleeding that does not settle with the advised pressure, worsening swelling, or a wound that opens. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling with allergic symptoms, fainting, or heavy bleeding.
