Short answer

For suspected food poisoning, rest, take frequent fluids or oral rehydration solution, eat as tolerated, and watch for warning signs.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Hygiene
Wash hands with soap and water.

What is happening

Food poisoning is an illness linked to contaminated food or drink. It can produce nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, and fever, but the combination differs between people. Symptoms may be mild or intense, and the responsible cause cannot be confirmed from symptoms alone. The practical focus is preventing dehydration while the body recovers.

Keep a note of when symptoms began, what foods or drinks were shared, and whether other people became ill. This information can help a clinician judge whether you need examination or testing.

A practical home plan

Sip water, clear broth, or an oral rehydration solution regularly. If vomiting occurs, use very small sips and increase gradually once they stay down. Eat plain foods when appetite returns, and avoid alcohol and heavy meals until your stomach feels settled. Wash hands with soap and water, use separate towels where possible, and do not cook for others while you have vomiting or diarrhoea. Do not start antibiotics or symptom-stopping medicines without medical advice.

When to contact a clinician

Seek urgent care for severe abdominal pain, blood in vomit or stool, fainting, confusion, breathing trouble, or an inability to keep fluids down. Reduced urination, marked weakness, or dizziness can indicate dehydration. Arrange advice sooner for a baby, older adult, pregnant person, or anyone with a weakened immune system or significant long-term condition. IV Fluid Therapy can replace fluids when drinking is not enough.
