Fibroadenoma pain during your period

A fibroadenoma is a non-cancerous solid breast lump containing glandular and supporting tissue. During a period, hormone-related changes can increase breast fullness and sensitivity, making an existing lump feel sore or easier to notice. Some people feel discomfort on both sides, while others notice it near one lump. The symptom pattern is useful to describe, but it does not diagnose the lump.

A breast examination may be followed by an ultrasound to look at the lump's shape and internal appearance. If the findings do not settle the diagnosis, a biopsy can provide tissue for laboratory examination.

Note the first day of your period, when soreness starts, how long it lasts, and whether it settles afterward. Choose a well-fitting supportive bra and try a warm compress or a cool pack wrapped in cloth. Avoid repeatedly checking by pressing, which can irritate tender tissue. A pharmacist can advise whether an over-the-counter pain reliever is appropriate for you.

Book a routine appointment for an unassessed lump, recurring discomfort, or any change in the established pattern. Bring a list of medicines and previous breast tests.

Contact a clinician promptly if the breast becomes red, hot, or swollen, if you develop fever, or if a lump grows quickly. New skin puckering, nipple inversion, bloody discharge, or severe persistent pain also needs timely assessment. Do not wait for the next period to pass when these changes are present.
