Short answer

Feet that itch after wearing shoes may be reacting to heat, friction, shoe materials, or trapped moisture, while scaling or blisters suggest a skin condition.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why shoes may trigger itching

Warm, enclosed footwear increases sweat and rubbing. Leather treatments, rubber, adhesives, dyes, insoles, or laundry products can trigger Contact Dermatitis, often where the material touches the skin. Small itchy blisters on the sides or soles may fit Dyshidrotic Eczema. Peeling or scaling between the toes, especially after prolonged dampness, can occur with Athlete's Foot. A reaction that appears after one particular pair and improves when you stop wearing it suggests an exposure, but it does not prove the cause.

What you can do now

Stop wearing the suspected pair for a short period and keep a note of what changes. Wash gently, dry between the toes, and use breathable socks and shoes. Let footwear dry completely before wearing it again; avoid sharing shoes or towels. Do not scratch blisters or peel loose skin. If scaling persists or returns, a clinician may recommend a Topical Antifungal Treatment after checking whether infection is present. Avoid applying steroid cream alone to a suspected fungal rash unless advised.

When to seek care

Arrange an appointment if symptoms continue after changing footwear, recur with different shoes, or cause cracks, blisters, or sleep loss. Seek prompt care for spreading redness, increasing warmth, swelling, pus, severe pain, fever, or trouble walking. A rapidly developing reaction with facial swelling, wheezing, or breathing difficulty requires emergency help.

Questions for your doctor

Could this be Contact Dermatitis, Athlete's Foot, or Dyshidrotic Eczema? Should I bring the shoes or product list? Would testing or a Topical Antifungal Treatment be appropriate?

Questions people ask

Why do my feet itch only in certain shoes?

A material, finish, insole, or adhesive may be irritating your skin, although heat and friction can also vary between shoes.

Can Athlete's Foot start after wearing shoes?

Warm, damp footwear can support fungal growth, but a diagnosis depends on the pattern and examination rather than the footwear event alone.
