What should you know about eyes and throat itchy?

Allergic conjunctivitis affects the eye surface and may cause itching, watering, and redness. Allergic rhinitis can irritate the nose and throat as well, causing sneezing, a runny nose, or a tickling sensation. Dust mites, pets, pollen, and other airborne particles may be involved. Most people with allergic conjunctivitis notice eye itching; the combination does not prove that a particular allergen is responsible. A scratchy throat from dry air or a viral illness can also occur.

Move away from smoke, dust, animals, or any newly introduced product that seems to trigger symptoms. Rinse your face, wash your hands, sip water, and use a cool compress for the eyes. Avoid rubbing your eyes and pause contact lenses. Ask a pharmacist or clinician whether Allergy Medication is appropriate, especially if you take other medicines or have asthma. Keep a record of exposures and whether symptoms improve away from them.

Call emergency services immediately for throat tightness, trouble breathing or swallowing, a rapidly swollen tongue or lips, faintness, or widespread hives. Seek prompt eye care for pain, reduced vision, strong light sensitivity, injury, or chemical exposure. Arrange a routine review if symptoms recur, disturb sleep, or do not improve after avoiding likely triggers.
