What should you know about excessive gas and sulfur burps?

The rotten-egg smell comes from hydrogen sulfide in gas released from the digestive tract. Certain foods can temporarily increase sulfur compounds, while slowed digestion, reflux or stomach irritation may change belching. Acid Reflux, Gastritis and Hiatus Hernia can present with upper digestive symptoms. Helicobacter Pylori Infection and Irritable Bowel Syndrome may also be considered when burps occur with pain, nausea or altered bowel habits. Sulfur burps do not prove any one condition.
