What should you know about Euvax hepatitis B vaccine?

Hepatitis B can affect the liver and may cause illness with or without obvious early symptoms. Vaccination trains the immune system to respond before infection becomes established; it does not treat an existing hepatitis B infection. The protection plan depends on age, health, previous doses and the reason vaccination is advised.

A healthcare professional may review your vaccination record and, in selected situations, arrange blood tests. A Liver Function Test looks at liver injury or stress; it is not the same as a vaccine response test. Symptoms such as Fatigue or Dark Urine should be assessed in context rather than attributed automatically to vaccination.

Tell the vaccinator about previous vaccine reactions, current illness, allergies, pregnancy or immune-suppressing treatment. Bring any record of earlier hepatitis B doses so the schedule can be planned accurately. The injection site may be sore, red or swollen for a short time, and some people feel tired or feverish.

Follow the appointment plan for any later doses and keep the record safely. Do not double a dose because an appointment was delayed; ask the clinic how to continue. Vaccination reduces risk but does not replace safer practices around blood and body fluids or testing after a possible exposure.

Seek emergency help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, widespread hives, collapse or severe dizziness soon after vaccination. These may indicate a serious allergic reaction and require immediate assessment.

Contact the clinic for a persistent high fever, worsening redness or swelling at the injection site, or symptoms that concern you. If you may already have been exposed to hepatitis B, seek urgent medical advice because vaccination alone may not be the complete post-exposure plan.
