EUS combines a flexible camera with a small ultrasound probe. The sample can help identify cancer cells, inflammation, infection, or another process. A pathologist examines the material, and the result is interpreted alongside scans, symptoms, and other tests. A sample that is too small or unclear may lead to a recommendation for another test.

Follow the endoscopy unit's instructions about fasting and medicines. Tell the team about blood-thinning medicines, allergies, pregnancy, sleep-apnoea symptoms, and previous reactions to sedation or anaesthesia.
