What should you know about erozivni lichen planus?

Erozivni is a term used for the erosive form of lichen planus. It may involve the mouth, tongue, genital lining, or skin, producing red raw patches, shallow ulcers, burning, or tenderness. Other forms of lichen planus can produce itchy skin or raised skin bumps. The appearance alone cannot confirm the diagnosis, so an examination may include inspection of several body sites and, when appropriate, a small tissue sample.

Book an assessment with a dermatologist, dentist, or relevant specialist, especially when an erosion persists or interferes with eating, washing, or intimacy. Keep affected skin clean and gently moisturised, use a soft toothbrush for mouth lesions, and avoid friction, tobacco, alcohol, and products that burn. A clinician may prescribe topical corticosteroids or oral corticosteroid treatment according to the site and extent. Use these medicines exactly as directed.

Arrange prompt review for spreading sores, worsening pain, repeated bleeding, or a lesion that does not heal. Get urgent help if you cannot drink, develop dehydration, have facial or genital swelling, or experience breathing difficulty. New changes should be assessed instead of assumed to be a flare.
