The laser energy is absorbed by water in skin, so the clinician can target a chosen depth with fine control. Removing part of the surface can soften rough texture and some lines; stimulating a deeper healing response can support new collagen. The plan depends on the concern, skin tone, treatment area and desired recovery. It may be considered for sun-damaged skin, uneven texture or selected scars, but it is not a way to erase every mark.

Avoid tanning and tell the clinic about active rash, infection, cold sores, medicines, pregnancy, and previous pigment changes or raised scars. Follow the clinic’s instructions for pausing retinoids or other irritating products. Afterwards, cleanse gently, keep the surface moist as instructed, protect it from sunlight and let flaking skin shed naturally. Redness, warmth, swelling and sensitivity can occur during recovery; the more deeply the skin is treated, the more careful the aftercare may need to be.

Ask for prompt clinical advice if redness spreads, pain intensifies, swelling is severe, drainage becomes cloudy or foul-smelling, or healing seems to stop. Fever, extensive blistering or a new change in vision warrants urgent assessment. Darkening or lightening that persists beyond the expected review period should also be reported so the clinician can distinguish healing pigment change from a complication.
