Epiderm silicone scar sheets: what to know

Silicone forms a soft barrier over a scar, limiting rubbing and helping the surface retain moisture. This can make some raised scars less firm, prominent, or uncomfortable with regular use. A sheet does not restore uninjured skin or guarantee a particular cosmetic result; scars continue to mature and change naturally.

Wash your hands, clean the healed scar gently, and dry it fully before applying the sheet. Cut it to fit without stretching, and follow the manufacturer’s advice for wear, washing, and replacement. If your skin is reactive, begin with shorter periods and inspect the area after removal.

A little warmth or mild itching can occur under an occlusive covering, but persistent redness, rash, tenderness, or soggy skin is a reason to pause and seek advice. Keep the sheet away from mucous membranes and do not apply it over fresh surgical glue unless your clinician approves.

Arrange a dermatology review if the scar becomes increasingly raised, extends outside the original injury, bleeds, ulcerates, or interferes with movement. Stop the sheet if the surrounding skin reacts. Emergency care is appropriate for breathing difficulty or swelling of the face, lips, or tongue after application.
