What should you know about Entyvio for Crohn's disease?

Entyvio contains vedolizumab, which blocks a pathway that helps certain immune cells move into the digestive tract. By limiting this gut-directed inflammation, it may reduce diarrhoea, abdominal pain, and other activity of Crohn's disease. It does not remove the underlying condition, and improvement can take time. A specialist considers previous treatments, disease location, complications, infections, vaccination history, and general health before recommending it.

Tell the IBD team about fever, recent infections, tuberculosis exposure, liver disease, allergies, pregnancy, and all medicines. Discuss vaccines before treatment begins; do not receive a live vaccine without specialist advice. Keep infusion or injection appointments as scheduled and record bowel frequency, pain, blood, weight change, and energy. A blood test or other monitoring may be used to check inflammation, anaemia, or treatment safety. Do not alter other Crohn's medicines unless the prescribing team gives you a plan.

Get urgent help for severe or rapidly worsening abdominal pain, a swollen abdomen with vomiting, fainting, heavy bleeding, or inability to pass stool or gas. Contact the treatment team promptly for fever, persistent cough, painful urination, new rash, breathing symptoms, or signs of an allergic reaction after treatment. Worsening diarrhoea or weight loss also warrants review rather than waiting for the next appointment.
