What should you know about Eno for indigestion?

Indigestion, also called dyspepsia, can feel like upper-abdominal discomfort, early fullness, bloating, nausea, or burning after meals. An antacid such as Eno can reduce acidity for a while, but it does not diagnose why symptoms are happening or treat causes such as gastritis, peptic ulcer, gallstones, or Helicobacter pylori infection.

Check the formulation because some antacids contain sodium. Ask a pharmacist before use if you have kidney disease, heart failure, high blood pressure, or a salt-restricted diet. Antacids may interfere with absorption of other medicines, so follow the label’s advice about spacing doses.

Dissolve and take Eno exactly as the package directs; do not exceed the stated amount or frequency. Keep the product away from children. Tell the pharmacist about prescribed medicines, supplements, pregnancy, and long-term conditions before choosing it.

Eat slowly, choose smaller portions, and avoid lying down soon after meals. Limit foods or drinks that clearly trigger your discomfort, and keep track of timing, nausea, stool changes, and pain location. If symptoms recur, a clinician can decide whether acid reflux medication, testing, or another approach is needed.

Get urgent help for severe or rapidly worsening abdominal pain, chest pressure, breathlessness, fainting, vomiting blood, or black stools. These symptoms should not be managed with an antacid at home.

Book a medical review for persistent indigestion, repeated vomiting, difficulty swallowing, food sticking, unexplained weight loss, yellowing of the skin, fever, or pain that keeps returning. Indigestion can accompany several conditions, and the direction of the symptom does not identify one diagnosis by itself.

Ask what may be causing your pattern of symptoms, whether Eno is compatible with your medicines, and how long self-treatment is reasonable. Describe meal triggers, pain location, vomiting, bowel changes, swallowing difficulty, and any use of anti-inflammatory painkillers.
