Short answer

Glutathione drips may affect skin pigmentation and antioxidant processes, but benefits are uncertain and treatment carries medical risks.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the drip means

Glutathione is an antioxidant made naturally in the body. A drip delivers it directly into a vein, so the procedure requires sterile equipment and trained medical supervision. Clinics may describe brighter or more even-looking skin as a goal, but responses vary and a drip does not treat every cause of uneven pigmentation. It is also different from applying a topical product to the skin.

Possible short-term effects include soreness, bruising, or irritation around the cannula. The medicine or the infusion can also cause nausea, headache, dizziness, or an allergic reaction. Underlying health conditions, medicines, pregnancy, and previous reactions can change whether treatment is appropriate.

What to do before treatment

Ask which product is being used, why it is recommended, how it is prepared, and who will monitor the infusion. Share your medical history, allergies, current medicines, pregnancy or breastfeeding status, asthma, kidney or liver problems, and any previous reaction to an injection. Do not rely on a drip to replace sun protection or evaluation of a new dark patch. A dermatologist can discuss safer options for the specific pigmentation concern, including [Skin Brightening Treatment](/treatments/aesthetic-procedures/skin-brightening-treatment/) and the role of [Glutathione](/materials/glutathione/).

When to seek care

During or soon after an infusion, seek urgent medical help for trouble breathing, swelling of the lips or face, fainting, widespread hives, chest tightness, or severe weakness. Contact the treating clinic promptly for persistent vomiting, worsening pain or redness at the IV site, fever, or a rapidly changing skin reaction. A new or changing pigmented area also deserves a skin examination rather than repeated cosmetic drips.

Questions for your doctor

What skin concern are we treating, and how was it assessed? What benefit is realistic for my skin type? What are the alternatives and warning signs after infusion? How will the product be stored, prepared, and monitored?
