Sudocrem for eczema

Sudocrem may protect irritated skin in some situations, but it does not treat every eczema flare and can irritate some people. Its thick barrier can reduce contact with moisture or friction, yet eczema also involves inflammation and a damaged skin barrier. A product that feels soothing on one patch may sting, dry, or trap irritation on another.

Atopic dermatitis often needs regular moisturising and, during flares, a treatment chosen for the affected body area. Sudocrem is not a substitute for a prescribed anti-inflammatory medicine when one has been recommended. Avoid assuming that a thick layer works better. The face, eyelids, skin folds, and broken or infected skin need particular caution. Fragrance or other ingredients may trigger contact irritation in sensitive skin.

Check the product label and avoid applying it to the eyes, inside the nose, mouth, or large areas without advice. Test a small area first when the skin is intact, and stop if burning, redness, or itching increases. For routine care, use a bland fragrance-free moisturiser and avoid scratching, harsh soaps, and hot water. If the patch is weeping or crusted, ask a pharmacist or clinician whether a barrier product is appropriate before covering it.

Seek prompt care for spreading redness, warmth, swelling, pus, honey-coloured crusts, fever, or worsening pain. Get urgent help for facial swelling with lip or tongue swelling, wheezing, or difficulty breathing. Arrange a review if eczema repeatedly fails to settle, disturbs sleep, or covers a sensitive area despite gentle care.
