What should you know about eczema dry skin under eyes?

Under-eye skin can become dry, red, flaky, or itchy after contact with cosmetics, cleanser, fragrance, hair products, or airborne irritants. Atopic dermatitis may affect the eyelids and surrounding skin; asteatotic eczema and psoriasis are other possibilities, although they need clinical assessment. Rubbing can worsen inflammation and make the area look darker or swollen.

Pause newly introduced eye products and avoid scrubs, essential oils, fragranced creams, and vigorous makeup removal. Wash with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser, then pat dry. A small amount of a bland, fragrance-free emollient on the surrounding skin may support the barrier, but keep products out of the eyes and stop if stinging occurs.
