What should you know about during pregnancy itching all over body?

Dry skin, hormonal changes, heat, and stretching can make the skin itchy. A rash may point towards eczema, irritation, or another skin condition. Itching without a rash, especially on the palms or soles and worse at night, can be a sign of cholestasis of pregnancy, a liver-related condition that needs clinical testing and monitoring. Itching is not, by itself, evidence of cancer; rare conditions such as Hodgkin Lymphoma or Vulvar Cancer have different patterns and require a clinician’s assessment.

Tell your maternity team how long the itching has lasted, whether a rash is present, and where it is strongest. Use unperfumed moisturiser, lukewarm rather than hot showers, loose cotton clothing, and gentle fragrance-free cleansers. Do not start an oral medicine, cream, or herbal product in pregnancy without checking its suitability. Your clinician may arrange blood tests for liver function and bile acids when the pattern suggests cholestasis.

Contact your maternity team promptly for severe or persistent itching, itching without a rash, yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, pale stools, pain beneath the ribs, or reduced fetal movement. Reduced movement needs urgent maternity advice. Seek emergency help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, or a rapidly spreading blistering rash.

Ask whether your symptoms fit a pregnancy-related liver condition, which blood tests are needed, how results will be repeated, and what monitoring is recommended for you and your baby.
